WebJul 16, 2024 · The Flam Railway opened to passengers in 1941. Construction began in 1924, although surveys for its construction had begun as early as 1893. It covers a vertical distance of 862m from the highest point in the mountains to the lowest point on the shore of Aurlandsfjord and is the steepest standard-gauge railway in Europe.
